The first online casino appeared in 1995 and since then has developed into a $30billion business. Here are some of the important milestones in the remarkable history of this phenomenon.

In 1994 Antigua and Barbuda passed a law that regulated online gambling. The law was called the Free Trade and Processing Zone Act.

In 1994 and 1995 two software companies were launched that developed the software that made the online casino possible. They were Microgaming and Cryptologic.

In 1996 the first online casino at which clients could play for real money was launched.

In 1998 the first progressive slots games were introduced. By creating networks available to huge numbers of players, massive jackpots became available.

In 1999 multiplayer games became available at online casinos. Players could play at the same table as other players and exchange online chat. This was a major step forward in the development of the online casino concept.

In 2001 the first dollar half millionaire was made through a progressive jackpot and one year later in 2002 the first dollar millionaire was similarly made. Months later a progressive jackpot winner collected $1.5 million.

In 2003 the integrity of online casinos made a move forward with the formation of eCOGRA (eCommerce and Online Gambling Regulation and Assurance) an independent regulating and auditing body.

Also in 2003 attempts to outlaw online gambling in the US began to take hold. It became illegal to process money that was used for online gambling. This led to various law suits and saw some casino operators pulled out of the online gaming business; it did little to stop US players gambling online as it simply forced them to use off-shore operators.

In 2005 a progressive jackpot winner broke all previous records by winning close to $2 million.

In 2010 online casinos generated record revenues of around $30 billion, and it has been estimated that the business will grow at around 13% per year.

Our prediction for 2011 is that the US will backtrack on their online casino ban, and that US citizens will again be allowed to gamble online.

There are some great online casinos out there. The best way to find the one that’s right for you is to visit http://deposit-casino-bonus.com/.
